National Statistics
Researchers have found that 1 in 6 men have experienced sexual abuse before age 18.

  • ​1 in 4 men have been physically abused (slapped, pushed, shoved) by an intimate partner.
  • 1 in 7 men have been severely physically abused (hit with a fist or hard object, kicked, slammed against something, choked, burned, etc.) by an intimate partner at some point in their lifetime.
  • Nearly 1 in 10 men in the United States has experienced rape, physical violence, and/or stalking by an intimate partner.
  • 1 in 18 men are severely injured by intimate partners in their lifetimes.
  • Male rape victims and male victims of non-contact unwanted sexual experiences reported predominantly male perpetrators. Nearly half of stalking victimizations against males were also perpetrated by males. Perpetrators of other forms of violence against males were mostly female.

If you are a man experiencing domestic violence and/or sexual assault and feel that you need shelter specific to safety concerns (whether the danger is from a woman or another man), we believe you and we are here to help.

Often, a few nights in safe place can help you to come up with alternatives. In many cases, having a safe place to stay for a few days to get some sleep, make phone calls, firm up plans, and have a base of operation can give you the the leeway you need to regain some control of your life, implement safety plans, and turn the proverbial corner to an abuse-free life. 
The North Georgia Mountain Crisis Network knows what alternatives are available in our area. Our advocates have the resources at their fingertips and have relationships with other programs, so their help is instrumental in your path to safety and healing. Our advocates can also assist you with:
  •  safety planning.
  • Temporary Protective Orders (TPO). 
  • case management.
  • therapy referrals.
  • application for Crime Victim Compensation. 
  • individual counseling.
  • domestic violence education.
  • other services and support that are often ONLY accessible through domestic violence/sexual assault programs.
